Here is a comprehensive list of every singe blog post I’ve ever written. Happy Reading!
Does the world still need Peace Corps?
This week, an article in Foreign Policy titled Corps Concerns, discusses the need of the Peace Corps in the 21st century. The PC advocate in me couldn’t help but want to share my personal response to the issues raised in the article.
27 months of Peace Corps Cameroon
I’ve been back for 7 months now. The more I try to move on to the new phase of my life, the more I find myself wanting to hold on to my service and share the experience with others. I think it takes being back to really cherish those two years. Everyday, I appreciate that time of my life a little more. So, in honor of this big milestone, I have created a short 5-minute video to sum up my experience. It’s much shorter than the previous one that I posted. That one was much more personal, but this one highlights on the experience.
Peace Corps Turned 50!
Yesterday was the Peace Corps’ 50th birthday! Celebrations took place around the world – supposedly there were 741 events that took place across 76 countries and all 50 US States! I took part in a house party in London, and it was absolutely marvelous! Since I’ve been back in London,…
China in Africa in Oxford
About a month ago, one of the hundreds of emails that I get from the LSE had an interesting title: OUCAN Conference: Chinese Investment in Africa. I get these emails so frequently that I often pass up many very interesting conferences and talks. But this one, I opened it immediately…
Water For Thought?
Yesterday (March 22nd) was World Water Day. I wasn’t aware that there was such a day until I saw Peace Corps’ Twitter feed featuring a number of water projects that volunteers are doing around the world. I then remembered my two years of service without running water. Someone else on…
Magical London Sunshine
Spring is upon us! I imagine for most places in the Northern Hemisphere, people are experiencing the type of joy that comes with the first warm day without a coat. In London, sunshine has been with us for the past few days! For a city known for its gloom, this…
Wine, Cheese & the London Skyline
Tonight, I had a sassy girl date with Amy. Thanks to Groupon, we were able to experience a wine and cheese tasting event at the London Sky Bar, located on the 28th floor of the Millbank Tower. The view was incredible. I really too often forget just how amazing London…
Facebook Hiatus: the Beginning
Looming exam pressure and a recent personal episode has led me to this decision: to take a 68-day Facebook hiatus until exams are over on June 20th. You may be thinking, why in the world are you studying for exams already? Well, I am studying in an archaic British system…
Facebook Hiatus: Day 1
So, first day without Facebook in 5+ years. It is… weird. Exacerbated by the fact that I stayed in my shoebox size room all day researching for a paper. As any college student know, Facebook is the perfect procrastination tool. You go on there to see what your friends are…
Facebook Hiatus: Day 2
Day 2. I reached for the F key much less today. Muscle memory is learning to not ready for that key when mind is bored. Progress. petit à petit. I feel less attached to that social network, and while it’s still rather bizarre, I am much more aware of other…
LSE MPA: the real deal
A few months ago, I wrote a post on my thoughts on the LSE MPA after my first term. Now that I have completed the year and am in the final stretch preparing for exams, I thought it’s time to do a bit of update on how I really feel….
Facebook Hiatus: Day 3
I cranked out over 1,000 word today on an essay. Although I somehow don’t feel accomplished because I foolishly thought I could write all 3,000 words in one day. That was silly. I spent most of my days doing this, though there were some long lunch breaks. I got bored….
To Mama With Love
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in the world, and most of all to my own mama. I have neglected this blog as I prepare for my exams, in an attempt to not fail my classes. There is much that I want to write about: my trip to Bologna,…
Facebook Hiatus: 41 days to go
I love these So you want to… videos on YouTube, and I just came across this one that is amazing: So you want to close your Facebook Account. I thought this is highly appropriate given my current Facebook Hiatus. I’ve lost track of how many days it’s been, but I…
Lonely Londontown?
I am tired. For the past few weeks, I have been holed up at a two-story Starbucks in central London prepping for my first exams at the LSE. This British system is difficult to adjust to. I have no idea how the exams are graded and thus my mood swings…
