China in Africa in Oxford

March 13, 2011

About a month ago, one of the hundreds of emails that I get from the LSE had an interesting title: OUCAN Conference: Chinese Investment in Africa. I get these emails so frequently that I often pass up many very interesting conferences and talks. But this one, I opened it immediately and signed up with Jennifer, a fellow MPAer who shares…

Peace Corps Turned 50!

March 2, 2011

Yesterday was the Peace Corps’ 50th birthday! Celebrations took place around the world – supposedly there were 741 events that took place across 76 countries and all 50 US States! I took part in a house party in London, and it was absolutely marvelous! Since I’ve been back in London, I’ve tried to find other RPCVs, but not too much…

27 months of Peace Corps Cameroon

February 28, 2011

I've been back for 7 months now. The more I try to move on to the new phase of my life, the more I find myself wanting to hold on to my service and share the experience with others. I think it takes being back to really cherish those two years. Everyday, I appreciate that time of my life a little more. So, in honor of this big milestone, I have created a short 5-minute video to sum up my experience. It's much shorter than the previous one that I posted. That one was much more personal, but this one highlights on the experience.

Does the world still need Peace Corps?

February 26, 2011

This week, an article in Foreign Policy titled Corps Concerns, discusses the need of the Peace Corps in the 21st century. The PC advocate in me couldn't help but want to share my personal response to the issues raised in the article.

City Break: Cambridge

February 25, 2011

The one thing I have learned since being back in London is that studying in Europe is not at all the same as studying abroad in Europe. Gone are the days of jetting off on weekends to all corners of Europe courtesy of RyanAir and EasyJet. Try as I might, most weekends, I’m either too tired to even think about…

Sunshine & Loves

February 15, 2011

Serious dose of sunshine today in London. I think the universe was saving it to give London lovers a perfect mood to snuggle up in parks across the city. It’s been two years since I last experienced Valentine’s Day in its full commercial frenzy. Flurries of updates on Facebook has led to some interesting observations. The optimists, or those who…

The “Real” World

February 13, 2011

We are entering week 16 at the LSE, and that means the final quarter of the year. Where did time go? I am finally putting on my game face and am finally feeling the pressure of life in this “real” world. There seems to always be something going on – places I need to be, things I need to do,…

Back in Tweets

January 23, 2011

Today marks 6 months since I left Cameroon. So strange. That life feels so so far away now. I was going though my old tweets and laughed out loud at some of the ones I had produced. They also humble me and remind me of that state of mind – much simpler, less stressed, just happy to have the very…

Reaction to ABC’s 20/20 Peace Corps Report

January 16, 2011

This morning, I woke up to a link in my Inbox to 20/20’s 3-part report on the Peace Corps. The piece discusses the lack of proper support and response to the murder of Kate Puzey and later a segment of women who were sexually assaulted and/or raped during their service. I was extremely saddened by this report and can definitely…

2010: Year-in-Review

January 14, 2011

Okay, I know it’s almost the middle of January, but I still haven’t done my Year-in-Review post and I feel like I need to, for no other reason than to remember what all happened in glorious 2010. I wrote one for 2009 and am glad I’ve documented it. Some of the major events included the end of my Peace Corps…
